Facebook had a master password that allowed employees to access any account and still records far more information about how you use the site than you’d assume, according to a new interview with a Facebook insider. A Facebook insider comes out and states the following: "... a master password once allowed Facebook employees to access any account. The password was apparently a variation on ‘Chuck Norris’ and was used for engineering purposes but other employees were aware of it.” Though the master password is apparently no longer in use, the interviewee claims that employees can simply query Facebook’s back-end database to look at private information. They also claim that there is a specilaised tool to access specific profiles but that Facebook requires a reason to use it and employees can be sacked for misusing it. Facebook's Response: “This piece contains the kind of inaccuracies and misinterpretations you would expect from something sourced ‘anonymously’ and we’ll leave it at that.” My Take: Duh !!! Let me step back, take out the contacts, put on the glasses and get readjusted into my Computer Geek alter ego. I'm currently giving off my TECHNOLOGY VIBE ... can you smell it? Let's strip down Facebook into a bare database with your profile information. Why wouldn't the owners of that database have full and complete control over the data? They can query and extract data as they please. Not sure why this is such a huge surprise. This is how they are able to offer specific demographic information to marketers. Ever wonder why you may randomly see a song or book that you like advertised on the right hand side of the FB Home screen. Facebook constantly extracts YOUR information and presents it to marketers. That is how they make MONEY!!! They have over 350 million users and they know how many are between the ages of 18 - 25, live in New York, single, married, have a college degree, etc. Your information is the PRICE you pay to utilize their Application. Don't like ... DEACTIVATE YOUR ACCOUNT ... OR NOT ...
